Ithaca Beer’s annual Box of Hops includes the flagship Flower Power IPA along with Pacific Gravity , a citrusy double IPA, Dr. Zaic , a fruity all-Mosaic double IPA, and Naked Pilgrim , an unfiltered New England-style double IPA. Not an IPA fan? Check out IBC’s Hellish Lager , a smooth, stylish, satisfying take on the German helles style. They recently col-laborated with 42 North Brewing of East Aurora on a really nice Belgian pale ale called Parallel Lines to celebrate 42 North’s second anniversary. 20/20 Hindsight, a limited release Wild Farmhouse Wheat Ale brewed with Mosaic, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops and fermented with Brettanomyces (6% ABV) releases on December 4 to commemorate the start of Ithaca’s 20th year. Raspberry Soiree, (4.2% ABV) a Berliner Weisse brewed with raspberries, returns as January’s Random Act offering. In the Ithaca Taproom, multiple styles from the 5 bbl pilot system can be found, including witbiers, New England IPA, and holiday beers. Ithaca’s 20/20 Hindsight Anniversary Party happens on Dec 4, and will feature numerous limited beers, including spe-cial new releases and some surprises from the brewery’s archives. Crossroads Brewing , in Athens, has recently opened their Catskill taproom. This award-winning brewery features such gems as Game Changer IPA , unfiltered to let the kettle-hopped Mosaic, El Dorado, and Amarillo and the dry-hopped Galaxy and Citra all shine through, hazily. A few sad closings to report. Nedloh shuttered its beautiful brewery and tasting room at the end of October. Birdland Brewing has closed, too, and is in the process of selling off its equipment and fixtures. Horseheads Brewing is up for sale due to retirement, and we beer lovers are hopeful that it will reopen under new ownership in the near future. Looking ahead, Ken and Meg Mortensen will open Zen of Distraction Brewing Arcade in Elmira sometime in 2018. ZoD will feature arcade games, table games, and other diversions, along with a fabulous art collec-tion. The 50-foot bar will be topped with sliced agate.
